According to the Texas Tribune, Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, Texas will not hire you if you're overweight. What constitutes as "overweight"? To them, it's anyone with a Body Mass Index over 35. Here's the CEO's reasoning:
"The majority of our patients are over 65, and they have expectations that cannot be ignored in terms of personal appearance."
In other words, old people don't like fat people. That has nothing do with providing medical care, and but Texas doesn't have any laws prohibiting weight discrimination in reference to hiring. As a matter of fact, only the state of Michigan and six other U.S. cities do.
Oddly enough, a recent study showed that BMI doesn't accurately measure body fat. Anyone want to present this to Citizens Medical Center?
