A man accused of shoplifting and determined to escape arrest did so (for now, at least) by scaling the ventilation system at an Alabama Walmart, creeping to entrance of the store, and kicking his way through the ceiling. It's some real Jason Statham, Transporter shit, and must be viewed.
AL.com reports that the bizarre moment took place on Wednesday afternoon at a Walmart in Mobile, Ala. According to AL.com, a loss prevention officer grabbed the unidentified suspect after he allegedly stole a debit card, a hat, shoes, underwear, and a watch. He then led him to the store's security office. From there, the man made his David Blaine-esque escape, which witness Brannan Lynn recounted to AL.com:
The crazy thing was the initial excitement, Lynn said. We thought it was over.
They got the man into a security office but he started banging on the door. Three employees braced themselves outside the door to keep him in, Lynn said.
At some point the sounds changed. Lynn and his father sat down to eat at the adjoining McDonald's.
A short while later, the men heard loud bangs above them. The suspect kicked out a portion of the McDonald's ceiling. Lynn said the man made eye contact with his dad before turning in the ceiling to find another exit.
He found it above the sliding glass doors leading to the outside. In video provided by Lynn, the man can be seen kicking out the ceiling and later dangling from the hole, tip toeing to balance on top of the door's frame.
After this daring feat, the man reportedly sprinted out of the door and around the parking lot. He immediately fled in a vehicle.
