A Florida woman was arrested this week for allegedly beating her son with a sack of potatoes.

The Smoking Gun reports that 46-year-old Rachel Salters was arrested on Wednesday at her Orange City, Fla. home. Citing an incident report from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the Smoking Gun says the dispute began after Salters' 12-year-old son prodded his mother to prepare dinner for him:

As Salters, seen above, allegedly began striking the child in the head with the potatoes, he went into the bathroom where he locked the door. Salters, in a sense of enragement, then kicked the door until it broke open, according to a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office report.

Once inside the bathroom, Salters, who is nicknamed Rae Rae, resumed hitting the child in the head with the sack of potatoes. When the bag broke open, Salters picked up several potatoes off of the bathroom floor and began throwing them at the boy, who was in the fetal position between the toilet and the shower.

Although the boy was not injured and Salters reportedly told police "I didn't hit him with the potato, I only threw it at him," she was still charged with child abuse and tampering with evidence. The Smoking Gun adds that she maintained that it was not a crime to hit her son; the law, however, seems to disagree.

Good luck fighting the law.
