During a somber press conference this afternoon, President Obama said that officials believe Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by missile in a separatist-controlled area of eastern Ukraine:
Furthermore, Obama said an American was among the 298 people aboard the flight who were killed. The passenger has been identified as Quinn Lucas Schansman, though no other details have been revealed about him.
Obama added that experts from the FBI and National Transportation Safety Board were en route to the Ukraine to investigate the specifics of the crash.
