As the times change, so does the way people do business.
The New York Post reports that sex workers in New York City are turning apartments rented through Airbnb into "places of business," eschewing the hotel experience. "It’s more discreet and much cheaper than The Waldorf," one prostitute explained to the Post, adding that "Hotels have doormen and cameras. They ask questions. Apartments are usually buzz-in."
According to the Post, escort services thrive by having sex workers rent apartments using personal Airbnb profiles:
This has been to be a cost-efficient practice. "[They] probably save $200 to $300 a night by not getting a hotel," the sex worker said. "It’s really good for business," the prostitute told the Post. The problem is that news about seedy activity happening following Airbnb rentals and people returning to discover "evidence" has them understandably concerned:
The Post adds that Airbnb is cooperating with NYPD over prostitution allegations. The best advice is to simply be wary about renting your apartment out on the Internet, as what you come home to might shock you
