After a recent increase in thefts at Lower East Side bars, thieves' mug shots will now be posted at establishments in the area. NYPD Sgt. Brian Frederickson has started passing out fliers with thieves' images on them to nightclub and bar owners on the LES in an effort to cut down on the petty crimes.
“Nobody should have to come out here to be a victim. You want to come out and have good time,” Frederickson told the New York Post. Frederickson also advised bar owners to instruct employees to get familiar with the photos so they can identify the criminals with ease.
According to police sources, grand larceny has climbed by nearly 15 percent over the past year in the 7th Precinct, which includes the Lower East Side.
