Use of Police Body Cameras Underway in Ferguson

They received a donation from two companies.

Nearly a month after 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed in Ferguson, Mo. by police officer Darren Wilson, the Ferguson Police Department has begun experimenting with police body cameras.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, police chief Tom Jackson revealed that the department had about 50 cameras donated by Digital Ally and Safety Visions a little over a week ago:

Company representatives were at the police department on Saturday training officers to use the devices, which attach to uniforms and record video and audio. Some members of the police department have been specially trained on the devices’ use.

Furthermore, Jackson said that squads will be assigned cameras, giving each officer the chance to use them. "We are still playing with them," Jackson told the Post-Dispatch. Jackson also noted that the department purchased three dashboard cameras, but does not have the funds to install them.
