The city can't catch a break.

With horrible moments like people shooting each other over Kool-Aid, Detroit is hurting as of late. This latest incident, however, is on a new level of awful. 24-year-old Adaisha Millerwas killed yesterday after an off-duty cop’s gun discharged while she was hugging him.

Miller was at a party hosted by the officer, and the “freak accident” occurred as she hugged him from behind. Her lung and heart were punctured by a bullet from the officer’s .40-caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic pistol, which was in its holster as he danced with his wife.

Miller’s mother, Yolanda McNair, says she was told the incident happened during a “flirty,” face-to-face hug. However, Detroit Police Officers Association lawyer John Goldpaugh says the officer did not know Miller. Regardless, Internal Affairs will conduct an investigation. If you’re that cop, how do you continue to do your job?
