Jim Carrey had plenty of people scratching their heads during his bizarre interview with E! News' Catt Sandler on the red carpet during New York Fashion Week last week. In addition to repeatedly referring to the NYFW event he was attending as "meaningless," Carrey got introspective (or possibly Buddhist), telling Sadler, "There is no me."

Since then, everyone wanted to see if Carrey would eventually address his now viral red carpet interview. During his appearance at the Toronto Film Festival the comedian delved deeper into his exploration of himself as he tried to determine "Who's Jim Carrey?"

"As an actor you play characters, and if you go deep enough into those characters, you realize your own character is pretty thin to begin with," Carrey explains. "You suddenly have this separation and go, 'Who's Jim Carrey? Oh, he doesn't exist actually.' There's just a relative manifestation of consciousness appearing, and someone gave him a name, a religion, a nationality, and he clustered those together into something that's supposed to be a personality, and it doesn’t actually exist. None of that stuff, if you drill down, is real."

It's hard to determine if Carrey has been putting on a performance art piece since returning to the entertainment industry, or are these thoughts something he genuinely has on his mind and gets them off his chest during these interviews. We're not going to venture a guess here.

Carrey has a new Showtime series called Kidding where he reconnects with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry, as well as an upcoming documentary titled Jim and Andy.
