You've probably never heard of him, but Alan Emtage changed your life.

The man is credited with inventing the world's first search engine, though he never patented the marvelous idea.

"We built this very simple program that, instead of me doing the search, allowed people to log on and do the search themselves," he says in the excellent Huffington Post video that portrays his story.

We highly recommend watching it—Emtage is engaging and truly seems at peace with his decision, which is something, like creating the world's first Google, that is no small feat.
