Star Wars fans everywhere have a very complicated relationship with George Lucas. Sure he’s the man that created their favorite franchise, but the recent prequel trilogy and subsequent “Special Editions” of the original trilogy have left such a bad taste in people’s mouths that they have grown a slight hatred for the once revered filmmaker. And once it was revealed that he would be a creative consultant on the new Star Wars trilogy at Disney, people weren’t sure how much influence he would have on the movies.

Well now Lucas himself has told Access Hollywood just what his role will be on the upcoming movies: “[If the filmmakers ask],‘Who’s this guy?’ I can tell them. I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, ‘This is this and this is that.’” He then said, “Basically I’m not — I don’t really have much to do.”

It’s pretty shocking that the creator of Star Wars has been relegated to a mere spectator for this upcoming trilogy, but the franchise is owned by Disney now, and the company can, and will, do whatever it wants with it. Looks like you won’t have George Lucas to kick around anymore.
