California Woman Sentenced to 6 Years for Killing Her Son With Meth-Laced Breast Milk

This is unspeakably fucked up and sad. Today a 27-year-old California woman named Maggie Jean Wortman was sentenced to 6 years in prison on a voluntary manslaughter conviction in the death of her 5-week-old son. Her son died of a meth overdose in 2010 after nursing. In the investigation into her son's death, it emerged that Wortman's then 19-month-old daughter also had traces of meth in her system. Her lawyer claims that Wortman is now sober, but at the time that her son died, she denied being responsible for his death, and even staged a suffocation scene to deflect blame. She still denies being directly responsible for his death.
