Apple captured a lot more of the mobile market thanks to the iPhone 5S when it was released back in September, but now Samsung is ready to counter.
The company is set to unveil the Galaxy S5 later this month at the Mobile World Conference, according to the New York Times. The annual conference is held Febraury 24 to 27 in Barcelona, Spain. Instead of trying to beat Apple with a bunch of gimmicky features, Samsung is instead trying to make the Galaxy S5 stand on its own with useful features that focus on security. The device will feature enhancements to its camera and body, but nothing crazy like, say, an eye scanner. This might be smart for Samsung: instead of bulking up a phone with things customers might find cool for a few weeks, focusing on security will be of much more importance to users as smartphones continually hold sensitive information that thieves can exploit.
The event itself will be toned down from last year as well. While Samsung went all out with a full-on performance for the unveiling of the Galaxy S4, this year things will be much more professional—sometimes letting the devices speak for themselves is the better choice.
