George Romero's 1968 Night of the Living Dead didn't invent the zombie, but it did give the zombie its contemporary coat of paint.

Romero's films, and all subsequent media that borrowed from it, modernized the zombie into its current incarnation and every video game since can thank Mr. Romero for that. Plants vs Zombies 2 has been crushing it in the app store and has been racking up near perfect scores for weeks now. Yes, Plants vs Zombies even looks to be making the jump to next-gen when Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare gets released on the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 this Spring.

Killing the game it may be, but did you know that Popcap Games looked to the real world for inspiration making their different zombie types? True fact. Read on for our Plants vs Zombies Real World Zombie Equivalent Guide.

Zombie Type: Buckethead Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: Customer service representative

"May I place you on hold?"

Even if you're lucky enough to speak with a human being, chances are you are such a low priority that you'll be trapped in a muzak scored death loop. The buckethead zombie is provided some small measure of protective armor thanks to his head piece, but like the customer service rep, and your spot in queue, he probably just forgot it was there in the first place.

Zombie Type: Conehead Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: DMV eployee during the Holiday office party

Being a government employee seems taxing. All that standing around and telling people they're in the wrong line, I'm parched just thinking about it. The one time of the year the universally reviled employees of the DMV get to cut loose is during the Holiday party.

Give Mitch all the eggnog he can guzzle so he can tell you about that time he failed that woman on her eye exam for no reason other than he just wanted to feel something.

Zombie Type: Digger Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: The construction worker outside your home at 5am

Were you planning on sleeping in this Saturday morning? Sucks for you. Turns out there is a busted water main directly outside your apartment and the construction crew needs to repair that. The Digger Zombie burrows under your lawn using his pickaxe to attack plants from behind and like his real world counterpart, he can be highly disruptive to your well-laid plans of sleeping in this weekend.

Zombie Type: Basic Garden Type Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: Literally every middle manager you've ever had

"Yeah...I'm going to have to ask you to come in on Saturday."

The basic zombie type is the most perfect corollary to your basic unimaginative, dull, and aimlessly shambling middle manager. The type of manager that believes in team building and a denim embargo on casual Fridays. Like zombies, they sustain themselves on the brains of those around them.

Zombie Type: Explorer Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: History professor

Your college professor never missed a chance to let you know he thought you were an idiot. Even managing the feat of making some of the world's most pivotal events sound like car stereo instructions, your college history professor can still be found molding away in his classroom. The Explorer Zombie carries a torch that can instantly destroy your plants.

Your history professor only carries a torch for well-aged Scotch and tweed jumpers.

Zombie Type: Football Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: Fratbro

Bro. Bro.. BRO! BRO WE ARE TAILGATING, BRO!

The football zombie and the epic real world fratbro are almost indistinguishable from one another. Like the Football Zombie the Fratbro is singleminded in his obsession with college football, beerpong, and tailgating.

Zombie Type: Newspaper Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: Investment banker

Other than nearly destroying the entire global economy through years of unchecked greed and avarice, investment bankers are unfairly vilified. Sure, they may seem materialistic and concerned only with the value of their portfolio, but like their zombie counterpart, the Newspaper Zombie, they are singularly focused. One is concerned with the liquidity of the S&P 500, the other with the warm grey matter going un-eaten between your ears.

Zombie Type: Dancing Zombies

Real world zombie equivalent: Hipster still holding on to the Keffiyeh

We get it. Your well-rounded and care about global issues. You stand on the side of global justice as long as it doesn't get in the way of your $12 green juice. You aren't without your sense of humor though. Remember that time you found that jumpsuit at Buffalo Exchange and decided you were going to be post-racial, undead Michael Jackson for Halloween?

Yeah...you lost some friends for that one.

Zombie Type: Dolphin Rider Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: Greenpeace activist

Zombie: "If meat is murder and I'm made of meat, but I'm already undead, can I safely eat myself from an ethically unchallenged position?"

Greenpeace activist: "That depends. Are you a product of factory farming or.."

(Conversation is interrupted by the activist’s brain being devoured on the street)

Zombie Type: Pirate Zombie

Real world zombie equivalent: Overly enthusiastic cosplayer

Both share a penchant for accidentally dressing up as gutter punks, and like gutter punks, both smell a bit south of fresh. Sure the avid cosplayer may have spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars creating period specific garb, but the pirate zombie only rocks vintage and his gear is literally hundreds of years old.

Creative facial hair and a flair for gold can only take you so far.
