Early on Friday morning, a deliveryman who is believed to have ties to radical Islamist groups set off an explosion at a factory near Lyon, France, before planting his boss' severed head atop the factory gate, the New York Times reports.

Now, a day later, Mashable reports that the man involved in what the French authorities are calling an act of terrorism, took a selfie with the beheaded victim and sent it to an unidentified number via Whatsapp

According to Mashable, the photo is believed to have been sent to a Canadian mobile phone number, although officials are still investigating the recipient's identity at this time. Canadian authorities are also currently involved in the case.

Although the suspect, Yassine Salhi, reportedly has a history of ties to radical Salafists, no group has claimed responsibility for his attack so far.

According to security officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Salhi's employer is believed to have died before Salhi caused the explosion by driving his car into the gas canisters of the American-owned Air Products factory in Saint-Quentin Fallavier.

Salhi was detained later on Friday after the explosion. An investigation is currently ongoing.
