One Chinese man has no idea what bears or dogs look like considering he raised two bears he thought to be dogs for two years and lived to tell the tale.

Chinese man Wang Kayui was pawsitively shocked when he discovered the two “puppies” he adopted from a Vietnamese man turned out to be Asian black bears—an endangered species.

Kayui says he took care of the well behaved pups, feeding them and bathing them daily. It was only when the “puppies” started to get hungrier and when they started killing Kayui’s chickens that he began to suspect something. That and the fact that each pup grew to 100 pounds.

Kayui finally found out the truth about his “puppies” when he read a Public Security Bureau leaflet about endangered animals. That’s when he gave his pets in to the authorities. The sibling bears, one male and one female, were taken to the Yunnan Wild Animal Rescue Center and are said to be doing well according to Feng Lingui, a spokesman for the animal rescue center.
