Before becoming the mom in this summer's sci-fi hit Stranger Things and (SPOILER ALERT) the dad in Mr. Robot respectively, Winona Ryder and Christian Slater starred in high school black comedy Heathers. A TV show based on the movie was announced months ago, and now a pilot for the show has been greenlit, according toThe Hollywood Reporter. How very.

Heathers (in case you haven't watched the 1989 movie currently streaming on Netflix) revolves around one twisted high school relationship, the typical queen bees of high school, and not so typical topics including teenage suicide (don't do it). The TV show, described by THR as a "comedic anthology," will get a present day update in which the misfits are the ones ruling high school but are still just as mean as the original Heathers. It was previously reported that the new Heathers would include a "black lesbian" and a Heather whose name is Heath and identifies as gender-queer.

Leslye Headland will direct the pilot. "I related with it so much," Headland told THR. "I can't believe they got away with so much. The movie was a huge influence on an entire generation and it'll be nice to introduce this to a new generation." The Heathers TV show is set to begin production this fall.

In 2013, Bravo axed its plans for a TV series reboot to the movie which imagined Ryder's character moving back to her to hometown with a daughter in tow who would've faced her own group of Heathers.
