The VMA's wasn't all fun and games tonight.
In an unexpected moment viewers saw Common speak out about 18-year-old Michael Brown's death and the events in Ferguson, even honoring Brown with a moment of silence.
This was a precursor to the two public service announcements MTV created in conjunction with the NAACP and the Anti-Defamation League, among others, as a part of the "Look Different" campaign.
The first PSA directly addresses Michael Brown and Ferguson, while the other is more broad to "looking differently."
