Vanessa Hudgens is facing backlash after saying that deaths from coronavirus are “inevitable.”

The actress took to Instagram Live, where a fan named Austin mentioned in the comments that they were being tested for coronavirus. Hudgens moved to other topics but returned to COVID-19 talk when asked about a London trip being postponed, potentially for months. “Um, yeah, till July sounds like a bunch of bullshit, I’m sorry. But like, it’s a virus, I get it, like, I respect it. But at the same time, like, even if everybody gets it, like, yeah, people are gonna die. Which is terrible, but like, inevitable? I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t be doing this right now.”

Twitter users didn’t react well to her take on the viral pandemic.

Imagine being as selfish as Vanessa Hudgens. “People are gonna die...but it’s inevitable” NO, IT IS AVOIDABLE IF WE ALL STAY HOME OTHERWISE THE LIFES OF EVERYONE WILL BE ON RISK. ESPECIALLY OLD PEOPLE OR WITH AN INSUFFICIENT IMMUNE SISTEM. I’m frustrated. https://t.co/McJ3fnp1Uc

vanessa hudgens really out here taking a break from moaning and wearing beaded kimonos to call coronavirus bullshit as if she isnt wealthy enough to buy the care she'd need if she was ill, while the rest of us are just going to literally fucking 𝙙𝙞𝙚

What Vanessa Hudgens said was so bad. Some of us are legitimately fucking terrified about this coronavirus. The last thing ANYONE should be doing is reinforcing those fears.

Hudgens hasn't yet responded, but she did opt to wish her followers a happy St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday afternoon, saying in an IG video, “I wish we were in a pub, but we’re not. Because lockdown.”

A number of celebrities have used their platforms to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, while others have made donations to benefit those who are sick and/or out of work due to the disease. Hudgens was among the stars who encouraged others to give back to those in need, directing her followers to the Feeding America non-profit organization over the weekend.
