The first trailer for Cats arrived a little sooner than expected.

Originally scheduled to drop Friday, the two-and-a-half minute preview provides a closer look at the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic Broadway musical. The movie was directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper and features an ensemble cast that includes Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Jennier Hudson, Rebel Wilson, Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, and James Corden. Huge names, no doubt, but even a film with so much star power isn't immune to online roasting.

Immediately after the trailer dropped, people flocked to social media to share their first reactions, many of which were of the mocking variety. Though some took jabs at the songs and vocals, most of the criticism was directed at the visual effects—specifically the motion capture technique that transformed the actors into slightly creepy singing-dancing felines.

You can check out some of the best Twitter reactions below. Cats is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters Dec. 20.

That’s the first time I’ve ever watched a trailer and said outloud, to myself, “yikes.”

I can't believe that the "exciting new tech" behind CATS is just that horrifying meme from like 2011where people put Nicolas Cage's eyes on animals. pic.twitter.com/UJz5S4XrqQ

**Carrie Bradshaw voice** I couldn't help but wonder, did we need to get through the Cats trailer so we could be strong enough for Cats Twitter?

Worst thing about trailers for any horrible CGI monstrosity is you can’t even go like “well, at least people got paid” because VFX workers are notoriously underpaid

I don't know why you're all freaking out over miniature yet huge cats with human celebrity faces and sexy breasts performing a demented dream ballet for kids.

Do not watch the CATS the movie trailer! It is created by Russians who are stealing people's faces and putting them on cats!!

You know something is wrong when the CATS trailer scares you more than the IT CHAPTER 2 trailer
