Report: Trevor Noah in Running For 'Daily Show' Hosting Job

South African comedian Trevor Noah is being considered as a replacement for Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show," according to a Variety report.

OK, you can admit it. You read the name Trevor Noah in the headline, and said "who?" Then you saw the picture, and said, "ohh, the new guy on The Daily Show. Isn't he from England or something?"

Yes, he's the new guy who signed on as a Daily Show correspondent in December 2014. No, he's not from England, he's from South Africa, and according to a report in Variety, he's got a shot at taking over as host when Jon Stewart leaves. 

Citing an unnamed source inside the show, Variety reports that the search for Stewart's successor has "accelerated" in the last few days, although the final decision is far from made. Aside from the purest of complete speculation, there haven't been any names floated out there concerning who might actually be on Comedy Central's list of candidates, until now.

Noah is already pretty famous in his home country, and his standup special Trevor Noah: African American premiered last year on Showtime. 

Comedy Central is already the most diverse network in late night TV, as in it currently has the one and only non-white host in all of late night (Larry Wilmore).
