The Preacher comic book adaptation series that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are bringing to AMC just announced its first big casting news: Ruth Negga from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to play the female lead.

Negga currently plays Raina on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but she'll be taking the role of assassin-for-hire Tulip O'Hare, ex-girlfriend of the main character in Garth Ennis' cult classic and epically blasphemous comic book series, according to Deadline

1.

The character is an excellent marksman (markswoman?) and an all-around badass. Tulip, along with a drunken Irish vampire named Cassidy, and Jesse Custer, the main protagonist, are the heart of the series. Custer is a preacher who gets possessed by a creature known as Genesis, who, in the process, kills everyone in his congregation and bestows unnatural powers upon him. Then the trio ends up on a mission to (literally) find god, who has abandoned his heavenly duties.

This thing has been in the pipeline since at least 2013. Rogen and Goldberg are going to produce as well as write and direct the pilot.
