On this year's SAT test, organizers asked the following question: "“How authentic can [reality] shows be when producers design challenges for the participants and then editors alter filmed scenes?” Seems fair enough, and not at all tied to watching reality shows. But for some students, it was cause for much consternation.
“This is one of those moments when I wish I actually watched TV,” the New York Times quoted one testtaker as writing on an Internet message board.
Wrote another: “I don’t watch tv at all so it was hard for me. I have no interest in reality tv shows..."
Which, like we said, is fine, but you don't necessarily need to watch reality television to answer that question! Common sense would dictate that they aren't authentic based on the wording of that question, and an easy essay would follow. We won't write one, of course -- we're well past the point of taking the SAT. Just sayin' though; it's easy.
