It looks like Kal Penn's days in Washington are over. For now. The Harold and Kumar star famously left acting to pursue a job with the Obama administration three years ago, but he's gotten the acting bug again. In addition to shooting A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas (out later this year), he's also booked a recurring guest spot on How I Met Your Mother.
Per TVLine, Penn will play a potential love interest for Robin (Cobie Smulders) and perhaps keep her away from possible soulmate Barney. That Barney is played by Harold and Kumar hero Neil Patrick Harris will hopefully be a very fertile ground for self-referential jokes.
Penn will reportedly return to help Obama campaign for re-election in 2012.
