Motherhood is never easy, and Kiesha learned that in a big way during the fifth season of The Chi. After deciding not to give her child up for adoption in Season 4, viewers saw Kiesha dealing with the repercussions of that decision throughout Season 5. Over the course of 10 episodes, Kiesha managed to balance being a mother with her education, all while rekindling a romance with Emmett. In Season 6, expect those issues to continue, as Kiesha pushes forward toward a fulfilling career, while Emmett’s dangerous new partnership and single-minded desire to expand Smokey’s test their relationship.

Falling in love can often feel like a new start, and no one felt that more than Kevin in Season 5 of The Chi, when a new romance coincided with him turning over a new leaf. In the meantime, Jake attempted to keep his mind on basketball while returning to a public school on the South Side. Throughout all that, Papa went all in examining his own issues on his podcast, while feeling more and more like an outsider without Maisha there to support him. During Season 6, fans can expect to watch Kevin become ever more brilliant as an expert gamer, while struggling with his newfound independence. At the same time, Papa falls for an older woman while he also begins to question his own faith, and Jake launches a new business venture, setting them all up for drama and surprises throughout The Chi’s full season.

Facing a serious illness can shift your entire outlook on life. Just ask Jada, who only began to find herself again after recovering from cancer during last season. That turn of events also saw her severing romantic ties with Suede after also welcoming Darnell’s support during her cancer treatment and then — spoiler alert — marrying him. With the new season fast approaching, it looks like Jada and Darnell remain happily married, giving her the solid platform she needs to keep mentoring Emmett and her best friends as they all try to do their best in complicated relationships.

In the upcoming season, Victor’s also got relationships on his mind. After publicly declaring his love for his new girlfriend and his community, he may learn that his feelings will have an unexpected impact on his political ambitions. And while relationships can be tricky, they’re certainly less intense than what Douda will be getting into next season, as he deals with the fallout of Q's murder, goes to further extremes to maintain his power, and starts to question loyalty within his inner circle.

No matter what, it’s clear that Season 6 of The Chi will deal in triumphs and tragedies, offering viewers an up-close look at its South Side characters. Don’t miss new episodes, now streaming with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME® plan.
