Harris Dickinson Says Women Told Him 'Deeply Inappropriate' Things After ‘Babygirl' Release

The 29-year-old actor felt uncomfortable by some of the comments women made to him after he starred in the 2024 erotic thriller.

In an interview on Josh Horowitz's HappySadConfused podcast, 29-year-old British actor Harris Dickinson said that he felt uncomfortable by some of the comments he got from women after he starred in the A24 erotic thriller, Babygirl.

As seen in a clip from the podcast above, Dickinson said that there was "a big part of" the public's perception of him after starring in the film, directed by Halina Reijn, that he didn't enjoy. "Speaking openly... I'm proud to be a part of that film and I'm proud to have worked on it," he said. "Working with Nicole [Kidman] was just the most exciting thing for me, but the way the internet, the fans, sort of reduced some of it was quite strange."

In the movie, Dickinson plays an intern at the company of Nicole Kidman's character, with whom he gets into an intense sexual affair. The movie gained a reputation for its sexual scenes, which in turn brought some unwanted attention Dickinson's way.

"People are strange," he said. "I think it's okay to do this to male actors, weirdly. That's the problem, right? I think it's become okay and acceptable to do that to younger male actors. Whereas if we're in a conversation now where, like, for example... I get a lot women say things to me that are deeply inappropriate. When I was doing that press and when we were doing the Q&As and stuff, afterwards, there was some situations that were, like, completely unacceptable."

Dickinson admitted that he was expected to "just laugh it off," which led to him struggling with the experience. "People could say, 'Oh, well, you did a film that you knew was going to be somewhat erotic,'" he continued. "And it's like, yeah, but the film that we made, and the approach that Helina spoke about, for me, it was something way more unique, right? It wasn't a reductive thing in my mind. I saw it was one thing, and then I guess you can't control the perception of it and the way that people want to talk about it."

He then shared multiple examples of what was said to him, such as a woman asking him to dance for her. "She's like, 'Oh, you won't believe what I was when I watched that film and I won't say the rest,'" he said. "That's not okay, I don't want to know about your sexual experience with this story. It is odd."
