The vampirism is stark in the new teaser trailer for Morbius.

Monday, Sony dropped off the inaugural tease for the Daniel Espinosa-directed Marvel adaptation starring Jared Leto in the title role. Leto is joined in Espinosa's cast by Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Tyrese Gibson, and Matt Harris. Despite being billed as a trailer of the "teaser" variety, the clip manages to span nearly three minutes in length.

Among Espinosa's previous directing credits are Life, Child 44, and Easy Money. Leto, who previously dabbled on the DC side of things as the Joker in Suicide Squad, told Variety last May that the idea of playing a vampire had long appealed to him.

"I remember being at my grandmother’s house in Louisiana and the original OG would come on and just being pretty transfixed as some many of us were when we saw that," Leto, who was then mid-production on the movie, said. "And then the Anne Rice era was big for my brother and I. We passed those books around to each other."

In the same Big Ticket podcast discussion, Leto said he would "definitely" step back into the role of Joker under the right circumstances. For now, however, he's gone full Marvel with the role of Amazing Spider-Man character Morbius the Living Vampire as part of Sony's plans for their own Spidey-based Marvel universe.

Up top, catch the first Morbius trailer. The writing duos of Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway penned the script. The movie opens on July 31 and will presumably make a large amount of money.

Venom, the first live-action movie in Sony's Spiderverse, arrived in October 2018. Though reviews were indeed not great, Ruben Fleischer's Tom Hardy-centered production fared well at the box office, ultimately closing out with more than $856 million worldwide.
