As an article on this very website informed you mere hours ago, Marvel has shared the first teaser trailer for next year's Black Widow movie starring Scarlett Johansson.
Fans have plenty to pore over here, including the presence of Midsommar's Florence Pugh and the fact that the movie will mark Widow's ninth appearance in the MCU, but the honors for arguable teaser trailer MVP go to Stranger Things alum David Harbour.
Harbour plays Red Guardian/Alexei Shostakov, who studied Marvel readers will note is a Captain America-esque dude from Russia who—in one comics incarnation—has a romantic history with Johansson's character.
While the trailer doesn't exactly signal that fans will be getting that exact edition of Red Guardian, Harbour appreciators still had plenty of reason to celebrate, with jokingly presented emphasis put forth by some regarding the Russian storyline from Stranger Things' most recent season.
In a quick chat with Rotten Tomatoes earlier this year, Harbour teased that aforementioned Natasha Romanoff connection and said Black Widow "feels like a real kinda almost indie movie" amidst the MCU.
"He is the Red Guardian, who is the counterpart to Captain American, and he's also got a tremendous history with Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow," Harbour said. "They've known each other for a long time and when she goes to discover these things about herself, he's there. He's a very surprising character. You sort of think in the beginning of the film that he's one thing and then he becomes very much another thing."
Black Widow, directed by Cate Shortland, hits theaters next May.
