Nickelodeon shared the first teaser trailer for its short reboot of Are You Afraid of the Dark? The original children's horror anthology series followed a group of ghost story-loving kids who swapped stories around a campfire. The tales of the Midnight Society, as the kids called themselves, came to life in the flames of their fire.

The Canadian show ran for seven seasons as part of the channel's Saturday evening Snick programming. The new edition will be a three-episode miniseries focusing on the stories of the Carnival of Doom. Each installment will spend an hour diving into this evil circus.

The new cast features a few veterans of children's programming. As previously reported, Dark? 2.0 will showcase Sam Ashe Arnold (Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever.), Jeremy Taylor (ItGoosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween), Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl), Lyliana Wray (Black-ish, Top Gun: Maverick), and Miya Cech (Rim of the World).

Are You Afraid of the Dark? was originally planned as part of an overall push of the concept that included a feature film from Paramount. The movie has been delayed indefinitely after initial writer Gary Dauberman (It, the Conjuring/Annabelle universe) left. While it's not clear if this led to his exodus, Dauberman made it clear he wanted to honor the original series by being willing to go dark.

“That show is so important to me. I didn’t want to age it down too much because for it’s time, it had some really disturbing episodes and some really dark episodes," he told SlashFilm. "I really embraced that side of things...I think fear is healthy for kids. I don’t think we have to always sand down the edges of things."
