Disney Channel star Cameron Boyce has died at the age of 20, according to a family spokesperson. The family said in a statement to ABC News that the actor passed in his sleep due to an "ongoing medical condition."
"It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron," the statement reads. "He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother."
Boyce's career began when he was a child. His first role came at 9 years old when he appeared alongside Kiefer Sutherland in the 2008 horror movie Mirrors. He also starred in Adam Sandler's Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2 before coming to Disney Channel, where he made several guest appearances on shows like Good Luck Charlie and Shake It Up before landing a starring role as Luke Ross on Jessie. From there, he moved on to play Cruella de Vil's son Carlos on the show Descendants. Several of Boyce's past and current co-stars eulogized him as news of his death spread.
Outside of acting, Boyce was known for his philanthropy. Boyce's humanitarian efforts garnered him the Pioneering Spirit Award at this year's Thirst Gala, after he donated $30,000 to help the non-profit build wells for clean drinking water in Switzerland.
