Mortal Kombat is pitting the original series stars against their updated newer-gen selves in the new time-warp-y edition of the long-running fighting game.

Mortal Kombat 11 will have old school versions of characters like Liu Kang, Jax, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Baraka, Sonya, Raiden and Kung Lao against their new school iterations. To illustrate the split, the new trailer for NetherRealm Studios' latest splits the soundtrack between Ice Cube's classic "Check Yo Self" featuring Das EFX and Vince Staples' "Blue Suede."

It's not the first time that MK11 has grabbed a bit of current hip-hop to market its game. They premiered a new 21 Savage song in the game's first trailer, with Savage's deadpan, murderous delivery matching the content of the game perfectly. The new game's time-bending concept will allow fans to see updated takes on old looks for new consoles, old move sets and beloved fatalities, a few of which are showcased in the fight-filled trailer.

The new game will feature a few new characters, including its first-ever female boss. Kronika, the Keeper of Time is the big bad behind the time tournament and the game features a bit of voice acting by actual world-class fighter Ronda Rousey. Rousey will voice the legendary first-gen fighter Sonya Blade.  The game comes about four years after the massive event game that was MK10.

Take a look at Ice Cube and Vince co-existing a lot better than old and new Johnny Cage in the trailer up top.

Mortal Kombat 11 drops Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on April 23.
