'Aquaman' Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Talks Suiting Up As Black Manta

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, star of Warner Bros.' latest DC epic 'Aquaman,' talks training to play Black Manta, working with Jordan Peele on 'Us,' and shares some insights on his 2019.

DC fans are rejoicing over the fact that Warner Bros.' latest DCEU film, Aquaman, is pacing towards a $1 billion worldwide box office. The film's only been in domestic theaters for a week, and days before it pulled in almost $70 million during its opening weekend, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who stars as Black Manta, stopped by Complex's Midtown office to discuss what was clearly set up to be the dominant film for the Christmas box office.

Yahya, who before Aquaman, was featured in everything from Netflix's The Get Down to The Greatest Showman, discussed everything from the training he underwent for this role, including what it was like performing in the 70+ pound Black Manta costume. He shares which Black Manta figures he has, is looking for, and what scene he got the most physical in. He also skirts around two highly-anticipated projects he's in: Jordan Peele's Us and the forthcoming Watchmen series.

Check out the full interview with Yahya up above, and if you haven't done so yet, hit theaters to see Aquaman , preferably on IMAX.
