Ben Affleck recently checked out of rehab after spending over a month in a treatment facility for alcohol addiction. Affleck provided fans with an update on his recovery on Thursday with a post on Instagram. "This week I completed a forty-day stay at a treatment center for alcohol addiction and remain in outpatient care," he writes.

In late August, People reported that Affleck checked himself into rehab following an intervention staged by his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, and his sober coach. This marks the third time that the 46-year-old actor has entered a rehab facility. As he tries to work through his addiction this time around, Affleck says he understands that his battle is something that can last for the rest of his life, and he knows why he continues to fight this disease—for himself and his family. "Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle," he explains. "Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family."

Affleck took the latter part of his message to express his gratitude towards the people who have supported him through this process, and his goals going forward now that he has left the treatment facility. "It helps to know I am not alone," he admits. "As I’ve had to remind myself, if you have a problem, getting help is a sign of courage, not weakness or failure…I hope down the road I can offer an example to others who are struggling."
