'Avengers: Infinity War' Might Get an Extended Cut That Explores Thanos' Backstory

Thanos creator Jim Starlin appeared at a panel during Las Vegas Comic Con and revealed that an extra 30 minutes of Thanos footage from 'Infinity War' was cut from the final film.

Marvel might be giving fans an extra incentive to snag their own copy of Avengers: Infinity War by including an extended version of the film that features more of Thanos’ backstory. Infinity War definitely did a great job by making Thanos arguably the best villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but an extra cut of the Mad Titan would be icing on the cake.

As Screenrant reports, Thanos creator Jim Starlin appeared at a panel during Las Vegas Comic Con and revealed that an extra 30 minutes of Thanos footage from Infinity War was cut from the final film. The extra footage apparently included some major backstory on the purple bad guy, something that was somewhat missing from the movie. If what Starlin says is true, then the footage could be included in a special/extended cut of Infinity War, eventually.

This is of course no guarantee, considering Marvel has never released an extended or director's cut of any of its other films before.

Ant-Man and The Wasphits theaters this weekend, with some allegedly mind-blowing ties to Infinity Warthat could illuminate a few things going on in the MCU. After that, there isn’t another Marvel film until March 2019, which gives the studio plenty of time to serve some tea on Thanos. Blu-ray copies of Infinity War come out in August, so we’ll have to wait and see if a 3-hour version of the film is hitting the shelves anytime soon.
