‘Vogue India’ Dragged for Putting Kim Kardashian on Its Latest Cover

People on Twitter are wondering why the magazine didn't feature someone Indian on the cover of its March 2018 issue.

Kim Kardashian West covers the latest issue of Vogue India, and unsurprisingly, some people are not too happy about it. The cover has sparked complaints that Vogue India should have chosen a desi celebrity or model to put on its latest issue instead of the reality star.

This isn't the first time an international celebrity has gotten shit for appearing on an issue of a magazine. People on Twitter tried to come for Rihanna after she covered an issue of Vogue Arabia in October 2017. Bella Hadid also recieved backlash for being on a Vogue Arabia cover in August 2017 because the model is Palestinian. Vogue India even drew criticism for featuring Kim's little sister Kendall Jenner on its cover in May 2017.

In the interview with Vogue India, Kim dishes on the best and worse traits of the various members of the Kardashian clan. "When Kim was asked to 'make an Uber Kardashian with the best qualities' from each family member, she explained what qualities she'd take from each," the article reads. Kim answered, "My brother’s sense of humor. Kendall’s sweetness. Khloé’s 'I-don’t give-a-fuck' attitude. Kourtney’s savviness around finances. Kylie’s ability to just go for it and not care what other people’s opinions are. And my mom’s nurturing."

When the social media mogul was asked what qualities she would remove from her siblings if she could, she said, "Kourtney’s stubbornness. And Khloé’s getting too sensitive. I would take away Kendall’s anxiety, Kylie’s ‘I don’t care, I know what I’m doing’ thing and probably my brother’s moodiness.”

Some defended the cover by arguing that the magazine often features Indian stars and models but occasionally uses international celebs.

people who are hating on @VOGUEIndia for their select international cover stars every once in a while really don’t understand how magazines work

Others argued that the magazine needs to focus on highlighting Indian and other South Asian women to combat underrepresentation. Both Vogue India and Kim Kardashian have yet to respond to the criticism.

The fashion industry loves to preach about the importance of diversity & the efforts made towards it but then @VOGUEIndia will go & put Kim K on its cover 🤔

indian magazines don't care about employing south asians the same way us desis in the west want them to. they care about expanding their brand and establishing international presence and vogue india having kim k on their cover does exactly that
