'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Episodes Could Each Be Movie-Length

'Game of Thrones' star Kit Harington hints that episodes of the final season could be as long as 90 minutes.

Game of Thrones has reached a status where it can do pretty much anything and its millions of fans will lose their collective minds. But whether they choose watch it weekly or binge-watched the hourlong episodes ad nauseam, the latest news from GoT star Kit Harington may require some extra planning for the fans' viewing schedules. According to the Mirror, Harington says episodes of the show's final season could be up to 90 minutes long.

That means each of the final six episodes that will make up Season 8 could essentially be a movie. For die-hard fans, that's AWESOME news, but it's also maybe ridiculous to think you're going to have to invest that much time each week to watch a television show?

"We know we have six episodes—we are not sure whether they will run for 70 minutes or even 90 minutes," says Harington. That does not mean season 8 is anywhere close to premiering. But fear not, the cast and crew is hard at work filming in Ireland. "There is so much work still to do. We haven't put together a full episode yet as there is more filming. The length will be a network decision. But we are busy," Harington added.

Currently, season 8 of GoT is set to premiere on HBO in 2019. So, no excessive dragons, sex, and bloodshed in 2018, but if the show stays true to its usual rollout then expect the premiere to take place spring 2019. At least there is good reason for the long wait for new episodes: Despite the show's creators, cast, and HBO going at great lengths to keep everything about the final season a secret and fearing any and all potential spoilers, it is promised to be the most over-the-top yet. HBO programming boss Casey Bloys tells Entertainment Weekly"They take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality. As the show has gone on, it’s gotten bigger—big battle scenes, big special effects."

Bloys also touched on the development of the numerous Game of Thrones prequels. "They’re moving along," he says. "We’re not using the final season to launch a new show or anything like that. There’s going to be a separation between the two. These are among the best writers working and I’m hopeful."
