Emmys, you have some 'splainin' to do!
Earlier this summer, Beyoncé's Lemonade ended up netting four Emmy nominations (because it debuted as an hour-long HBO special, and because Bey is queen). Based on the beautiful work that went into turning this immaculate album into an impressive visual album, many felt that Lemonade was a shoo-in to win something... but somehow, Lemonade got beat out in the Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special category by Grease: Live!. You know, that Fox live special that featured Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo and You're The Worst star Kether Donohue continuing to be everything.
While Grease: Live! definitely had Broadway Twitter in its feels, who would've thought that it could snatch an Emmy from Beyoncé? You already know what's happening.
Y’all know I’m salty about Lemonade getting beat by Grease Live of all things #Emmys— Arielle Haddad (@khiethy) September 19, 2016
How do you even compare the directing in "Grease Live" to "Lemonade"? No, I mean seriously -- how? They're in drastically different fields.— Brett White (@brettwhite) September 19, 2016
Ew that ugly production of grease live won over lemonade? pic.twitter.com/T1Y6uUl7ub— kristy (@ohsnapitskitty) September 19, 2016

Some people are actually caping for Grease: Live, though.
I mean understandably the BeyHive is mad that Lemonade lost… but Grease Live was a Phenomenal piece of LIVE Television.— Peppermint Petty (@A_PattyCake) September 19, 2016

Emmys host Jimmy Kimmel had the perfect line after Grease: Live took its Emmy.

Stay safe, Grease: Live castmembers. It might end up being a long night.
