News is rapid, and —as commenters, and media watchdogs love to point out—mistakes occur more frequently with today's news. But placing a photo of Barack Obama accidentally holding place for a college campus rape suspect is pretty inexcusable.
The graphics editor of a Fox local news affiliate in San Diego did offer some excuses: “Please refrain from judging this station,” Thomas Condry wrote to one Facebook commenter. “Everyone here works very hard, and this was my mistake alone. I don’t know if you know any employee here, but I do know I haven’t seen you in the station which leads me to believe you know nothing about our level of respect or contempt regarding any topic.” The initial airing included footage of the San Diego State sexual assault suspect, but the Obama image stayed up longer than producers should've allowed.
The San Diego station offered a brief on-air apology.
