Tinder Users Swipe 90 Minutes a Day, But That Won't Help Your Chances

The average Tinder user can watch an entire movie in the amount of time they spend on the app a day.

Our search for love and, er, "companionship," on our smartphones has become a routine that could fill your entire lunch break. And maybe to some, it's just as important?

In a recent article for The New York Times, Tinder disclosed that it gets about a billion swipes every day, and 12 million of them end up in matches. There may be close to 50 million active users on the service, which is a hefty amount for an app that's been around for about two years. What's crazier is how long Tinder users will spend swiping left or right throughout a given day. The company said that on average, people log in to their account about 11 times a day. Women will swipe for about 8.5 minutes before they close the app, and men will do it for a slightly shorter duration at 7.2 minutes. When you add this up, the typical Tinder user will be on the app between 80 to 90 minutes out of their day. That's more time than most people spend on midday meals, and about the same length as a movie. For comparison, a recent study from eMarketer found that the average adult Facebook user in America spends about 39 minutes a day on the social network.

Another interesting stat: men swipe right 46 percent of the time, while women "like" about 14 percent of the pictures they see. It's hard out there, but nothing a few extra swipes won't fix, right?
