That feeling that every blockbuster feels the same is not just a cynical assessment of the current state of Hollywood. As it turns out, the go-to screenwriters of Tinseltown are literally all following the same bible.

An article on Slate (which applies the formula to movies currently out as proof) has exposed the source material as Save the Cat!: The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need. Written by late "screenwriting guru" Blake Snyder, the book not only details every major plot point and character development that studios have since reheated over an over, it tells the reader which page, of which act, said development/twist/progression should take place.

So there you have it. Hollywood is sticking to the same script for every screenplay. We suspected as much, but the confirmation is still pretty depressing.
