As the summer begins to wind down towards the end of August, so will the blockbusters. Movies touting loud explosions and million-dollar special effects will make way for more character-driven films vying for Oscar recognition. Seemingly caught in the middle of these two worlds is director John Hillcoat's Lawless.

On the surface, it looks like a character drama with plenty of moral implications, but this latest trailer for the movie also shows off more gunfire and explosions than we have seen previously from the film. Unfortunately, this makes the movie look more like a run-of-the-mill Hollywood action piece than what we were promised in the film's initial trailer.

But still, with a cast that includes Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, and even Shia LaBeouf, it's nearly impossible for this movie not to pique your interest. Revolving around crooked cops, criminal organizations, and a family of bootleggers, Lawless looks to be a pulse-pounding thriller with memorable performances. We just hope that it strives to be a bit deeper and more dramatic than what this new trailer shows.

Lawless will hit theaters on August 31.
