This horrifying video is from the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Turkey yesterday. The AP reports that 270 have been killed, but the death toll could’ve been as many as 1,000 due to the size of the quake. Numerous survivors are still pinned underneath of the wreckage of the many multi-story buildings that collapsed in the cities of Ercis and Van.

Israel felt the impact as well, and offered assistance, but the Turkish government refused. The relationship between the two countries has been strained of late, but Turkey insists that it turned down the help of several countries as well.

Let’s hope that we can make it to the end of 2011 without another natural disaster.
