Your Twitter timeline is about to get hi-jacked by your favorite brands. Just kidding. Sort of.
According to the NY Times, Twitter has changed the way companies will advertise on the micro-blogging network. From now on a brand's Promoted Tweets, advertisements posted under the guise of a tweet, will appear in the timeline of its followers.Previously, Promoted Tweets only showed up when a user made a relevant search.
Don't worry about your timeline become completely overrun with ads, though, Twitter says the Promoted Tweets will only appear once and can be easily removed by clicking the word "dismiss".
