Sony can breathe a little easier knowing it's not the only company suffering from serious security breaches. Citigroup announced today that hackers broke into its online account site and accessed the names, account numbers, and e-mail addresses of 200,000 Citibank credit card customers.
The New York-based bank said the hackers were not able to gain access to social security numbers, birth dates, expiration dates, or card security codes. According to Forbes, that's the info that's really needed for most forms of identity theft, where hackers gain access to accounts and empty them.
The breach, according to Citibank, affected 1 percent of its 21 million credit card customers in North America, though it would not say exactly how many accounts have been affected.
If you're a Citibank customer, we suggest you take a look at your account and immediately report any irregularities.
