The oft-delayed remake of the classic Sidney Poitier/Bill Cosby flick Uptown Saturday Night has just received a shot of adrenaline in the form of screenwriter Tim Dowling (Role Models, Just Go With It). Will Smith has long been attached to the updated version of the 1974 comedy, and now Denzel Washington is being linked as a potential co-star.

Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin is still on board to call the shots, and apparently in 2002 the studio also picked up rights the two sequels: Let's Do It Again and A Piece of the Action. There's huge potential in turning this into a new tentpole franchise for Smith, who's currently attempting to wrap the equally delayed Men In Black 3. But there's no guarantee Uptown will be his next project. The multi-millionaire multi-hypenate also has the drama The City That Sailed, the Paraguay organized crime thriller Triple Frontier, and the vampire tale The Legend of Cain rumored to be on his plate.
