On December 9, Apple Music will release the documentary simply titled 808—a film about the transitional period in hip-hop after the introduction of the TR808 drum machine. The film features appearances from Questlove, Rick Rubin, Pharrell, Afrika Bambaataa, Beastie Boys, and many more. Today in the first trailer for the documentary, each of the artists explain what it was like to hear these new sounds for the first time.
The sound has evolved tremendously since the '80s, but 808 will aim to give viewers a history lesson on the game-changing sound and provide a timeline of its impact on music from past to present. 808 will feature narration from Zane Lowe and be exclusively available on Apple Music.
