There's a new Gorillaz album on the horizon finally, and the group have been teasing the forthcoming release in some pretty inventive ways. The group's fictional band members have been popping up all over the place recently, with Noodle being named the new global ambassador for Jaguar's Formula E racing team, and Russel telling the story of how he was kidnapped by North Korea.

The latest way to let people know a new album is on the way, however, might be the most entertaining yet. An interview with Russel has arrived with Puss Puss Magazine, which prides itself on being "the magazine for fashion, art, culture and cat lovers." In the interview, Russel speaks about a number of topics, including who his favorite rappers are, and what we can expect from the new Gorillaz album. Among his favorite rappers, he listed MF Doom, Earl Sweatshirt, and Biggie.

In the interview, he explained how he joined the band, saying, "He abducted me. I was working my job at the record store, Murdoc came in asking for some old vinyl from the 50s, got me all distracted. Then he jammed a bag over my head and dragged me out. When he took the bag off I was in Kong Studios. Naturally, I was going to exact retribution, but then he played some tracks he was working on, and… I was impressed. Guess that sums up our vibe really, a mix of respect with an impending threat of violence."

When asked about the upcoming release, he said, "You can expect whatever you like. What is coming will come, whether you expect it or not. What's important isn't what's happening next, but what's happening right now. That's all you can control." He also spoke about cats saying, "I love cats. They’re always the first to spot ghosts in horror movies." His favorite breed of cat is the Devon Rex, by the way.
