Mac DeMarco Delivers Dreamy Cover of Prince's "It's Gonna Be Lonely"

Mac Demarco performs a dreamy cover of Prince's 1979 record.

Ever since the world received the heartbreaking news of Prince’s passing, tributes have been flooding the internet in various forms. Questlove and Stevie Wonder penned touching essays, Young Thug honored The Purple One on stage through his wardrobe selections, while many others like D’AngeloBeyoncé, Aretha Franklin, and many more paid their respects with covers and performances.

The latest cover comes from Mac DeMarco. The new video via Pitchfork.tv shows DeMarco and his bandmate Jon Lent performing a cover of  “It’s Gonna Be Lonely” from Prince’s 1979 self-titled album. The original is a down-tempo record completed by Prince’s delicate, almost whispery vocals. DeMarco’s cover doesn’t stray too far from the original—remaining just as smooth and dreamy.
