MTV has announced that they will be rebooting their legendary acoustic sessions series, MTV Unplugged, among other new original programming. After pressure to put the M back in MTV, the network has announced that they’ll be producing new episodes of Unplugged this year alongside a new song titled Wonderland, which they say will be their “first weekly live music performance series in nearly twenty years.”

Deadline reports that MTV’s president, Sean Atkins, said, “Advertisers, fans—they always ask, ‘Can you bring music back?’” They’ve answered the demands and more, as they’re also developing a series titled Studio 24, which is being produced in partnership with Scooter Braun, aka Justin Bieber’s manager. This is in addition to the new documentary series Year One, which they’ve yet to detail. Atkins added, “We have one of the largest programming budgets we’ve ever had, [and] we have every intention to increase the hours of original programming.”

The network will also be investing in a lot more scripted series as well, ordering three pilots. The big news here is that MTV is finally putting the focus back on music after years of complaints, and Unplugged will surely help them achieve this transformation they’ve been gunning for.
