Artists these days are almost always dropping freebies here and there, which in theory is great but there are rare times when they’re not so great. This might be one of those rare times. Lorde posted a short clip of a song titled “Lost Boys” that was eventually scrapped because “it wasn’t good.” But the majority of her fans might beg to differ on that opinion.
Lorde also left a little note to accompany the song:
found this little guy whilst trawling through my archives and thought it would be a cute thing to share with y’all. we wrote this song called lost boys in about march of last year, we spent a day on it and then never touched it again (it was not a good song, i promise, haha). a lot of people asked what happened to lost boys, and i guess you’ll never hear the other three-quarters of the song, but there was something about these bridge melodies i thought was pretty. so here you go – a little pre-christmas look at the cutting room floor. xo

Now those of us who may have really enjoyed the clip, are left unsatisfied by a song that may never be finished. That’s the downside to some freebies. But maybe if enough of her fans prove that they disagree with her thinking that it’s not a “good” song, a full version could happen in the future. One can only keep the hope alive.
